Commercial gas engineer jobs.

The role

What the job involves.

Perigon Search recruits commercial gas engineers for building services contractors, FM providers and heating specialists. The job is keeping commercial heating and hot water plant running: servicing, fault finding, repairs and commissioning on boilers, burners, water heaters and the pressurisation units and controls around them, on Hamworthy, Remeha, Potterton Commercial, Ideal and Viessmann plant. Most commercial gas service engineer roles take in planned maintenance and reactive callouts across a patch of schools, offices and retail sites.

A plant room isn't a combi boiler. Cascaded boilers, modulating burners and gas pipework running through a whole building mean more to test and more to get wrong. Every appliance type needs its own ACS ticket, and bigger installations need tightness testing and purging on top. The plant room engineer holding a full set of tickets and a combustion analyser they know how to read is the one clients chase.

Mobile or static. Most roles are mobile. You cover a patch from a van, on planned visits and reactive callouts, with an on-call rota. Static roles put you on one site or estate, usually for an FM provider, alongside other trades. Heating specialists usually add commissioning on new plant rooms and boiler replacements.

FAQ

Commercial gas engineer questions.

What does a commercial gas engineer do?
A commercial gas engineer services, repairs, installs and commissions gas heating and hot water plant in non-domestic buildings: boilers, burners, water heaters and the pipework that feeds them. Day to day that's planned maintenance, fault finding, gas safety checks and reactive callouts. Most roles are mobile, covering a region from a van.
What tickets do I need to be a commercial gas engineer?
Gas Safe registration and ACS commercial tickets. That starts with a commercial core, COCN1, then the appliance modules you work on, such as CIGA1 for boilers. Larger installations also need TPCP1 and TPCP1A for tightness testing and purging, and most employers ask for those.
Can I move from domestic to commercial gas?
Yes. The usual route is the CODNCO1 changeover core, then the commercial appliance tickets. Employers look for fault finding on larger plant, so time alongside a commercial engineer or on a plant room contract helps.
Do commercial gas engineers need F-Gas?
Not usually. Most commercial gas adverts don't ask for it. Some HVAC contractors list it as an advantage, and it's worth having if you want to work on heat pumps as plant rooms are decarbonised.
Do you recruit commercial gas engineers outside the UK?
Yes. We recruit across the UK and EMEA, including Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Scandinavia. UK gas tickets don't transfer directly, so most of this work is UK based.
